The way of the catches

The Way of the Catches was, of the XI ème to the XVI ème, an important economic axis between the County of Foix and Catalonia. The last cathares in exile, fleeing the prison, spoliation and death, quite naturally used this way to go to seek refuge in Catalonia. While following this transborder route, you will go by the same ways and will discover the same landscapes as these men and these women continued by the enquiry.
Arranged jointly by Ariège and Catalonia, this path of Great Excursion n° 107, marked out in red and white, goes from Montségur to the small Spanish city of Berga in a dozen days.

The French part which starts from Montségur, envisages 6 stages with lodging (in refuge or lodging of stage) with Comus, Chioula, Orlu, Mérens, Hospitalet-près-l' Andorre and Porta.
After Carried, the way crosses the border in Porteille Blanche, collar located at 2500 m of alitude which marks the limit between France, Spain and Andorre. The tent becomes essential, lodgings too being spaced.
The Spanish part of the path passes by Bellver de Cerdanya, Baga, Gisclareny, Gosol, Casanova and Queralt- Berga.
